Alexander (Sasha) Rubenchik

Alexander (Sasha) Rubenchik died May 18. He was 75.

Rubenchik was born in Lugansk, Ukraine to Mark and Genia Rubenchik on July 15, 1947. He lived in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Novosibirsk, Russia before moving to Livermore in 1992.   He received a doctorate degree in physics from Novosibirsk State University in Russia and dedicated his career to laser-matter interactions, non-linear optics and plasma physics, working for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for the last 30 years.  Dr. Rubenchik authored 350 publications and held over 50 patents.  He was awarded four R&D 100 awards.  He traveled all over the world and shared his knowledge with the scientists of many countries.

His memory will be cherished by wife of 54 years Valentina of Livermore; his children Elena (Richard) Ray of Cleveland, Ohio and Alex (Elena) Rubenchik of Livermore; grandchildren Alex and Mark Ray of Columbus, Ohio and Milana Rubenchik of Livermore; brother Vladimir (Vera) Rubenchik of Israel.  He is further survived by many relatives and friends.

Visitations will be held at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Avenue, Livermore on Tuesday, May 23, 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.   The family will also have a reception following visitation hours at their home at 6913 Village Ct, Livermore.
