Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is again partnering with the State Theatre in Modesto for the next “Science at the State” event, happening on Saturday, April 11. This year’s program, titled “Cosmic Treasure Hunt: Finding Stardust in Meteorites,” will feature a scientific presentation paired with the family-friendly film Ice Age Collision Course (rated PG).
Science at the State is a free educational program designed for middle school, high school and college students. It combines cutting-edge scientific presentations by LLNL researchers with a thematically related film, creating a unique experience that both informs and entertains.
The program will take place at the State Theatre, at 1307 J St., Modesto. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., followed by the scientific talk from 11 a.m. to noon, and the screening of Ice Age Collision Course at 12:15 p.m. Admission is free and no pre-registration is required.
The presentation will feature LLNL scientist Emilie Dunham, along with Granada High School teacher Tom Shefler. The two speakers will tell the story of stardust and its discovery in meteorites, and how LLNL uses powerful tools to learn about the stars that made us. Paired with the Ice Age film, the presentation offers, creates an engaging and whimsical experience for attendees of all ages interested in the theme of space and its mysteries.
Part of LLNL’s Science Education Program, the event highlights the Laboratory’s research and aims to inspire students to pursue studies in science, technology, engineering and math.
