Benjy Grover named LLNL’s associate principal deputy director
Benjy Grover has been selected as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s (LLNL) associate principal deputy director (APDD), effective July 1, 2024. Grover succeeds Sandra Brereton, who has announced that she will retire from the Laboratory.
In this role, he will work closely with the Director’s Office (DO) staff on a variety of institutionally significant issues impacting the efficient and effective operation of the Laboratory. On behalf of the DO, he will be responsible for actively leading, managing and collaborating with numerous other senior Laboratory officials on a diverse range of efforts across all parts of the Laboratory and the Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration enterprise.
This collaboration will include representing the DO on multiple institutional committees and boards, especially in the areas of operations, requirements, effective execution of mission work, transformation, information technology, safety, security and budget. Grover will serve as a member of LLNL’s Business Council, co-lead the Principal Deputies Committee and lead the Operations Community of Practice.
Grover brings more than 20 years of experience at LLNL to this role. Most recently, he has served as the Laboratory’s transformation officer and as the deputy principal associate director for Program Enablement in Strategic Deterrence (SD). Prior to these dual roles, he was a division leader and deputy division leader in both SD and Computing.
The APDD role has been held by Sandra Brereton since 2016. Brereton will partner with Grover on a transition of responsibilities in the interim before her retirement date.
